Police launch homicide investigation after CTA passenger pushed off moving train

Police have launched a homicide investigation after a person was pushed off a moving Red Line Train on the city’s South Side Monday afternoon.

Authorities initially reported Monday that a male of unknown age jumped from a moving CTA train near the first block of West 69th Street in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood at around 2:30 p.m. that afternoon. The passenger, police had said, landed on the third rail and was ultimately struck by an oncoming train. He was pronounced dead on scene.

But on Tuesday, after further investigation, it had been determined that three unknown suspects pushed the victim from the moving train during an altercation, Chicago police said in a statement. Detectives are now conducting a homicide investigation, police said.
